Week 18 - Unity Tutorial
This week, I had some problems to fix which thankfully, after troubleshooting, asking friends and also just messing around it worked! The only issue I had in the end, although it's working just not recommended, is Visual Studios wouldn't work so I'm still using Dreamweaver.
The coding for the World Interactions tutorial was a bit confusing and I did get there eventually. I definitely found it a bit harder because it was code I didn't recognise and when things did go wrong, I felt a bit out of depth. But again, I turned to friends and we eventually worked it out. What I did like was exploring the new components that could be added. Seeing it come together and the small things that these components could do, I was really interested. Then it was back to coding and tidying up. My code for Ruby looked like this (yes, bits are missing but they were there when I scrolled!):
I then moved on to this week's tutorials. Again, I liked seeing the newer parts of Unity that I wasn't familiar with, like the cinemachine package. It makes me think about the games we've made before and wonder if they could've been made differently and enhanced had I known some of these things existed. I found the cameras fascinating.
The first tutorial wasn't too heavy, just tedious. Everything had to be correct, ticked, in the right place so I made sure to go slow and save often because I didn't want a repeat of what happened last week.
I started the last tutorial with no issues from the last one for once. Adding sprites was really fun. Again, it was tedious, having to get everything right and having a lot of steps just to get the smoke to do what it was supposed to. The way it was customisable was interesting too. I enjoyed making a few and messing around with them to see the different effects I could get.
