Week 4 - Game Idea Research
I have identified that my game will be an RPG, mature game, as it involves alcohol. I thought about it being a simulation but it doesn't put you in the person's shoes and it's third person but I guess it's arguable.
My first idea is that the player is up against the time to select the correct ingredients from a last. If possible, there could be a spirit list, mixer list and garnish list. The time ticks down as the player selects these but continues to tick down as the player selects the process too (is it mixer first, ice, spirit? etc). If the timer is ticks down before the recipe is complete then it's game over. If the recipe is incorrect then it's game over.
My next idea is that the timer takes away points as it ticks down. You gain points for you correct ingredient selections but after 3 tries, it automatically gives you the right ingredients so you can create the drink together.
My last idea is that even if you pick the wrong ingredients you can advance on to the final mixing stage. It keeps the mystery until the very end. Then you find out whether you're right or wrong but there's no specifics. None of these reveal the correct steps once the game ends so that you can continue to play the game until you're right. This adds to the complexity and will make people want to come back and play it until they succeed, which is always a plus, but will also lighten the workload for me.
I found this article at gamedesigning.org quite resourceful in explaining game mechanics and the different kinds used.
Hi Rosie! Really enjoyed this blog post, I love you game idea! It's different to anything I've ever played before, it's also different to everyone's I've read so far! It sounds like the adult version of cooking mama which is definitely a game I would buy! I wish you the best of luck with it and maybe I'll get to play it when you're done! -Megan
ReplyDeleteHi Rosie, it's Aoibhe! Just had a read through your blog post. Well done, I enjoyed reading it. I love your idea and it sounds like you have thought a lot about your game idea. I can't wait to try your game out when it is fully finished. Wishing you the best of luck with your game and the rest of the semester too! - Aoibhe
ReplyDeleteHi Rosie
ReplyDeleteThis seams like a intesting idea but I have to ask is it relay an RPG because when I think RPG I think open world this feels more like a simulate. But I have to say I like the last option when you go into the mixer not knowing if you got it right, it as some suspense to the game.
Hey Rosie, I really enjoyed reading about your Game Idea Research and I really like the game idea! It's different to what I've seen so far and I'm sure you'll create a fun game! When mixing the drinks, will it be realistic as in real life or are you also creating new drinks never heard of before? I'm not so knowledgeable on drinks and mixing etc.. so will there be an instructions sheet at the start of the game for people that haven't mixed drinks before?
